A small world and the long arm of coincidence.

“In August I was contacted by former pupil and retired headmaster David Sibson (SH 80-85), as the latter was coming up to Cumbria to work some shifts as a guard on the Ratty and wanted to meet up for a chat.  David had arranged an appointment with Peter Rooke, who runs the West Cumberland Railway Museum in St Bees Main Street, so they arranged to meet there.

When I arrived, a young couple were also there, having seen the lights on and wanting to look round. It turned out that the husband, Nathan, was the son of Sarah Howard, one of the three children of Brian and Lois Howard - Brian was Head of Music in the 60s and 70s: although Sarah did not attend St Bees, Anna and Richard did - in fact Anna and David were contemporaries in ACP’s German set. Sarah is the wife of Paul Maybury, also an Old St Beghian (FS 72-77).”
